T.J. Cloutier at the LA Classic Poker

jason
21st February 2006

T.J. Cloutier is all in preflop with pocket sevens, but he is in serious trouble when he is called by two players -- one with A-Q, the other with pocket nines. The flop comes K 8 7, and everyone rechecks their cards -- but nobody has any clubs. Cloutier's set of sevens is in the lead, but the turn card is the 6, putting a flush draw on the board (which would make it a three-way chopped pot), and giving the player with pocket nines an open-ended straight draw. Cloutier had to dodge a lot of outs to win the hand -- and the last card was an offsuit 2.

T.J. Cloutier had just been knocked down to about $15,000 a few minutes before, but he has now tripled back up to about $50,000 in chips.

Miami once claimed his nick name brings him luck, because after he took on the name he entered the 1988 Superbowl of Poker and won his first big pot and the seven-card-stud title. It seems as though he was right (although we believe a fair amount of skill was involved too) and has continued to rise in stature in the poker scene.
In 2003 he won the Heads Up Poker Tournament in Vienna, beat 381 players at the L.A. Poker Classic in Event #5 at No Limit Hold'em - winning the tournament and over $70,000, he won $23,000 in event #17 at the Legends of Poker, and placed fourth in the Limit 7-Card Stud Championship in the United States Poker Championship at Trump Taj Mahal.
